WHAT TO EXPECT – MY APPROACH

I offer face to face, video & telephone counselling sessions which last for 50 minutes & take place at the same time weekly. Sessions are during the daytime & evening on a Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.

I work in an ‘integrative’ way. This means I am trained in a range of theories, skills & techniques which I bring together in a unique way for each person. Everyone is different. I think of my knowledge as a ‘tool box’ from which I pick out the way of working that best suits you.

I often talk to people about their past which can provide clues about what’s happening now. I try to put myself in your shoes, seeking to understand what it’s like to be you.

I provide a non-judgmental, confidential space for talking about whatever is troubling you.

As well as talking, sometimes I work creatively with images, objects, cards, or worksheets – always taking the lead from you about how we work.

CHOOSING A COUNSELLOR

Research has shown that the client: counsellor relationship is the most critical factor in determining the outcome of therapy. So, it’s important you feel I am the right therapist for you. I would encourage you to contact more than one counsellor before committing to regular sessions. I will encourage you to talk about how you find working with me as we go along. There is never any obligation to continue if the sessions are not meeting your needs.

SESSIONS

Once you have contacted me a phone call is the initial step. If we arrange a first session, this is always an introduction to give you the opportunity to find out more about how I work and to enable me to gather information about you & your needs. If we agree that I can be of help to you then a day & time for regular sessions will be agreed.

It’s difficult to say how many sessions will be needed, though 6 is generally the minimum and I have worked with people for over a year. We would talk about this at the first session & regular reviews will check how you think it’s going.

FEES

Each session is £55. I have a 24-hour cancellation policy, otherwise the full fee is due.
